We aim to work closely with employers to ensure our curriculum meets the evolving needs of the job market. This includes employer-led workshops, guest lectures, and opportunities for students to work on real-world projects.

Why Tau?

The name “Tau” holds deep significance for our institution. In Tswana, Tau means lion—a creature that has long symbolized strength, courage, and leadership across cultures. At Tau University, this symbolism is not incidental. It is intentional, woven into the very fabric of our identity, our purpose, and our promise to students. TauU was born from a bold idea: to disrupt, reimagine, and lead a new era of higher education—one where learning is not merely the accumulation of knowledge, but a catalyst for transformation. We do not seek to replicate what has been done before. We exist to redefine what a university can be.

In naming ourselves TauU, we embraced not only the universal reverence for the lion but also its deeper meanings, especially within the African context. The lion stands as a symbol of quiet confidence, noble presence, and purposeful strength. It does not need to roar to command attention. It walks with certainty, aware of its power, selective in its actions, grounded in clarity. This is how we move at TauU. We are not in the business of chasing trends for the sake of visibility. We move with purpose, grounded in values, led by vision.

Lions are celebrated for more than their power. They are also deeply strategic, resilient, and focused. They know when to wait, when to move, and when to act with precision. Yet, their brilliance does not lie in solitary strength alone. Lions are social animals, thriving in communities called prides. Within these prides, there is collaboration, mentoring, care, and mutual growth. Cubs are nurtured, taught through example, and protected as they grow into their own. TauU mirrors this. We are a young institution—still a cub in institutional years—but we carry within us the makings of something powerful, wise, and enduring. Our bold vision is clear: to grow into a global leader in learning, to offer a model of education that is flexible, transformative, and truly student-centered.

We see ourselves in the lion’s journey. And we see our students in it too. Just as every lion begins as a cub, with potential yet to be realized, every TauU student embarks on a personal journey of growth and self-discovery. Through our flipped classrooms, our commitment to deep and meaningful learning, and our insistence on constructive alignment between purpose, process, and outcome, we create an ecosystem where transformation is not only possible—it is expected. Choosing the name “Tau” is also an affirmation of our roots. TauU is proudly African in heritage and global in outlook. We recognize the unique challenges and extraordinary potential of the African continent and believe that education must speak to both. Our model is built to serve the diverse realities of our students’ lives—flexible enough to accommodate complexity, yet rigorous enough to ensure excellence. The lion, too, thrives in a dynamic environment. It adapts. It survives. It leads.
